Inspirational Text - Grease

Image
Following he pitch feedback where we got told to add more inter-textual 80's references I did more research into 80's film and the film that came up is Grease, I really like the outfit choice in the main character Sandy which has inspired me to do a similar outfit choice on the main performer in the music video. So for the costume of the main singer we have decided to do all black with a hint of red. The hair will also be tight curls. Another idea I have thought of since watching grease we could have the main character in a first set of clothing which could be seen as innocent and as the music video goes on she gets more into the costume at the end similar to the story of grease, this would keep the audience entertained.

Pitch Feedback

Image
When we presented our pitch to the class we got feedback of everyone, this feedback is going to help us develop our ideas further and allow us to understand on what we need to improve on in the planning of the music video. One of the questions on the feedback was if we know who is going to dance in the performance of the music video, we didn't think about this is to much depth as we were just going to make up the dance and ask friends to do it but we have now realized to ensure that the music video looks professional and realistic we will need people who can actually dance so from this I am going to get in touch with a dance school and ask if they will make a routine and perform in Queen Elizabeth dance studio to go in our music video. Another question was will anyone be performing which we knew someone would be the main performer but we didn't know who but we have now made the decision that Hannah will be the main performer t...

Inspirational Texts - Demi Lovato Lyric Video

Image
In this lyric music video I am really inspired by the font and at the beginning of my music video I intend to introduce the name of the song in a similar look with the plain background and the neon lights as neon lights have been a constant running theme throughout my panning and the other products.

Synopsis of initial ideas

The genre we have decided to do is 1980’s pop we chose this as it is different and the music videos in this genre aren't very good so we feel like we could make it better. The song we are doing is ‘I Need A Hero - Bonnie Tyler’ which is about traditional masculinity we are are going to go against this by using hero's such as fireman and boxers. As the song is also in the film footloose this film has gave us inspiration on the opening scene which is linked below.

Inspirational Texts - Foot Routines

Image
These two videos are inspiration on the foot routines that we could do in the introduction of our music video, we thought it would be a good idea to do research and learn the foot routines as on our test footage the routines weren't the best so if we knew what we were doing and learnt a few routines it would make the whole video look a lot more professional.

Inspirational Texts - Footloose

Image
This is the opening scene from the film footloose I was inspired by this clip as it was set in the same time as the song I am doing my music video too. In the film footloose the song by Bonnie Tyler is featured. I think this would be a good opening scene as it gives a good build up to the song. As we are doing a modernised version of the song which is from the 80's we will have modern shoes and better quality camera with good lighting ensuring it looks professional and like a realistic modern music video.

Track Choice & Justification

Image
1. Bonnie Tyler - Holding out for a hero This song shows connotations of traditional masculinity which we could then adhere it or go against it. This is a pop song which is what we wanted and it is very upbeat that a lot of people know making it an ideal song we could use. The original music video isn't very good allowing us to improve it. The song is used on footloose allowing us to create intertextual references. 2. Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Want To Have Fun The next choice is again an 80's pop song, this song is very girly meaning we can have the lead singer as a female and follow the forms and conventions we intended too. It is a very fun song which we could also have fun producing our own music video with it.  3. Wilson Phillips - Hold On  The reason we may use this song is it is a well know song which is also featured on bridesmaids meaning we  could use intertextual references. As I have watched the original music video there w...

Additional Genre Research - Steve Neale

Steve Neale - Genre Theory Steve Neale suggests that genres are examples of repetition and difference meaning that all types of genre are similar and follow the same forms and conventions however to make them a specific genre difference is essential because insignificant repetition would not attract an audience. The genre can be differentiated by adding a sub genre or a significant difference in the narrative. Steve Neale’s theory makes some valid points for example in a specific genre difference is essential this is because it makes the music, film or text different allowing the audience to engage with it and want to view it, if every genre was the same no one would want to watch new things as they would be exactly the same. Although this theory is very important implying this theory to my work will be very hard due to having to make my music video different to every other pop genre by adding other forms and conventions however I have an idea on how I want to do this. The pop g...

Digipak Research

By researching into digipak's and how other artists have constructed theirs, it has allowed me to develop an understanding on the general layout of a digipak. From this I have learnt that as there are multiple images being used on the album to add variety there should be different shot types for example, a close up, a medium long shot and also different angles such as high and low. Another thing that is important in the making of a digipak is to ensure that all the covers relate so that the audience can identify the album as the celebrities which means it is causing no confusion. There also needs to be a variety of different typography to add variety but an important aspect is to use one main font which should be carried through onto merchandise and the website. I am glad I did this research as it has helped me to plan my digipak and I now know the conventions that need to be on it to make it a digipak and appeal to my audience.

Website Research - Taylor Swift

By researching into different artists website it allowed me to gain inspiration from them and be as creative as possible when making mine. A thing I learnt from the artists website is that there was a common theme on each page either font, colour or an image which was also carried on through there other products such as there music video and digipak. I know that I need to do this throughout my products as it shows continuity and creates a brand identity for your audience to relate you too. Another thing I have learnt from this is the basic layout of a music website and the main things that need to be included for example, the home page, tour page, videos and merchandise and on each page there needs to be a link back to the home page to show easy navigation. I have learnt a lot from doing this research which I will keep in mind when creating my website and constantly refer back too.
