Textual Analysis Reflection

By doing research into other artists music videos I developed an understanding on the forms and conventions of a pop music video. In a pop music video that artist should be heavily featured which is what I intend to do in my music video as this is what stereo typically is done in music videos in the pop genre. Another thing I intend to do is focus on the lighting to ensure the video looks professional and catches the audiences eye, for my music video I want a bright colored lighting scheme and when filming in the studio I want it to be very bright and white with tints of colors I could do this by using colored film over the lights. In the pop genre dancing is heavily featured in music videos which is what I want to feature in my music video to an upbeat song to ensure the audience are lively and upbeat about the song. Researching Genre

What is a genre? Definition:  a style or category of art, music, or literature. Genre is a style or category which usually has its own aspects or stereotypes people link with it. Genre is a certain type of music. For example, Pop, Hip-Hop, Indie, Rock ect. Genres can also be fusions which is two or more things joining together such as Indie Rock which follows the form and conventions of two chosen genres Indie and Rock. Genre Theory Although some theorists believe that genre consits of forms and conventions such as Andrew Goodwin. Others believe it is a blend of things and that each genre has elements of other genre, theorists such as Martin Loop and Jim Collins believe this. Andrew Goodwins theory suggests that the lyrics should make constant references to the visuals on screen as this allows the music video to make sense to the audience.
